To Philles Proudfoot, Regarding the many Aunts photo: I checked the birthdate of Catherine Julia and Charles Robert Chugg's daughter Isabella (Bella) Chugg Diotte. She was born 8 to 10 years after this photo was taken, hence Bella is not your Dad's cousin. But….. Bella was named after her aunt Bella!!! This make the entire photo a photo of Thompson women!!! This makes sense as two Chugg wives were Thompson sisters from Wakefield Quebec. Moreover, every name on the photo matches Thompson girls. Their ages in the photo seem to match their ages around 1888 - 1890, the time of the photo. So here goes….. From left to right: ( there were 9 Thompson children) Aunt Bella - Isabella Thompson born July 6 1860 Wakefield, Quebec age 28-30 Aunt Kate- Catherine Julia Thompson born Dec 8 1871 Wakefield Que age 17-19 Married to Charles Robert Chugg Aunt Margaret- Margaret Thompson (unmarried) born May 3 1852 age 36-38 Grandma Thompson- Isabella Larmour Thompson married Edward Thompson Sr Born April 9 1827 Halfs Township, Ireland age 61-63 Died Sept 30th 1913 Wakefield Quebec (I have a photo of her headstone online) Your Dad's mother- Bill Chugg's mother- Anne Jane Thompson married to Philip Elisha Chugg Born October 10, 1868 age 20-22 Aunt Mary- Mary Eliza (Elicia) Thompson Born Feb. 25, 1854 Died 1936 (buried: Old Chelsea Protestant Church) Chelsea, Quebec Married Robert Campbell (buried: Old Chelsea Protestant Churchyard) Now my speculation on this photo is this: Wakefield and Chelsea are in the Gatineau escarpment (raised plateau) above Hull, Quebec, just north of Ottawa. Did the Protestant Irish Thompson family know the Protestant Irish Davis family? If so, the four living Chugg boys who were born in Canada had a Protestant Irish mother and at least three had protestant Irish wives. John Chugg in Ottawa married his cousin Anna Ada Milks whose mother was Sarah Davis Milks, sister to Cathrine Davis Chugg and was probably also Protestant Irish. They lived at 5041/2 maria Street in Ottawa. This means that the third generation of Chugg's in Canada had far more Irish in them than English. Those in Alberta definitely have much more Irish in them than English by virtue of the Cathrine Davis and the Thompson girls!!! - Michael Philip Chugg Milford Ct USA 2007 |
